Experienced and novice excavators from outside the Society are welcome. Minimum unaccompanied age is 16, but younger children with an adult are welcome. There will be training available, and a training manual can be purchased.
All excavators will have the opportunity to experience the main tasks associated with an excavation under the supervision and guidance of a member of the Society.
All persons attending the excavation will be required to join the Society for insurance cover, cost £10. Novice excavators will be required to join the Society, and purchase the training manual cost £6.
Persons participating in the training exercise will be charged an additional £44 and must purchase and read the training manual at £6. To complete the exercises you are likely to need to book for at least 5 days in total between April & September - though you can carry this on to next year. Those helping with a site set-up will have a discount on the training fee.
All persons attending the excavation are advised to check that their Tetanus Jab is still effective.
Work on site will start at 0930 hours, and continue till 1730. There will be breaks for refreshment at 1045 and 1500, with lunch 1230 - 1315. There will be no refreshments available on site or in the near vicinity - so you are asked to bring refreshments and lunch that you require. You are asked to bring a 4 to 5 inch pointing trowel which should be of robust construction (trowels with riveted blades are not effective). All other necessary equipment will be available on site (experienced excavators can bring their own well marked tool kits). Please bring shower proof clothing (tents are available for shelter and meals).
